Emerging Leaders in Marketing Academia

The Doctoral Student SIG (DocSIG) is a special interest group of the American Marketing Association created by and for marketing doctoral students across all research areas—Behavioral, Strategy, and Quantitative modeling. Since its founding, DocSIG has continually responded to the evolving needs of doctoral students, especially at the annual Summer and Winter AMA Academic Conferences.

At every conference, we organize signature events including a Friday evening networking dinner, a Saturday morning mentor breakfast, and in-person sessions tailored to help doctoral students prepare for tenure-track careers.

In 2025, at the Summer AMA in Chicago, we proudly hosted a pre-conference filled with mentoring opportunities and research feedback sessions. Looking ahead to 2026, we are excited to bring valuable programming to the global community as the Winter AMA Conference travels to Madrid, Spain.

Our mission is simple: To listen to the needs of our community and create meaningful opportunities that foster connection, mentorship, and professional growth.

In 2025–26, DocSIG is led by Ishita Nagpal (Chair, Georgia State University) and Zahra (Safa) Karami (Chair-Elect, University of Wyoming). Please feel free to reach out to us anytime at docsig.ama@gmail.com.

Our motto, “Building, Bonding, Blooming,” reflects DocSIG’s mission to help doctoral students grow both professionally and personally. We provide opportunities to sharpen essential academic skills such as research, writing, teaching, presenting, and reviewing—skills that play a crucial role in career development and success on the job market. Beyond professional growth, DocSIG fosters a supportive community where students can connect, exchange ideas, and encourage one another. These relationships often extend well beyond the PhD program, creating lasting networks of mentorship and collaboration.

We also highlight and celebrate the achievements of doctoral students through our awards. Ultimately, our goal is to serve as the premier information hub for doctoral students—supporting them through every stage of their PhD journey and serving as a trusted resource for prospective students preparing to apply.

Stay connected with us through our website, and follow along on LinkedIn, and YouTube.
