The virtual edition of Pitch Perfect will only be open to virtual ICC participants. If you are registered to attend ICC in Chicago, we encourage you to sign up for the in-person edition of Perfect Pitch.

Session 2: Stories from an Undercover Outsider: A Primer on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) discussions are filled with evolving concepts and terms; even the most well-intentioned person can inadvertently exclude members of marginalized groups. This entry-level, story-driven session will provide you with the tools you need to begin navigating these increasingly common interactions.  With good humor and hope, Erik Rueter, a queer individual with a managed mental illness, will share his personal experiences as an “undercover outsider” while leading you through exercises designed to build awareness and empathy for a variety of underrepresented groups.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

There are four key outcomes for this session. Participants will be able to:

  1. define commonly used DEI terms;
  2. share resources about marginalized groups with their chapters;
  3. identify human-centered design methodologies that can be used to enhance DEI initiatives; and,
  4. implement changes in their own sphere of influence that will build a micro-culture of inclusion.

For the past three years, Collier has exceeded her
