Luncheon & Keynote Presentation: Getting Things Done In A World That Doesn’t Want You To

You’re someone who has moves to make and something to give. You may not be looking to change the world but you’re ready to change your moment. The trouble is that you can’t seem to get to the one thing that’s most important because you’re busy, tired, don’t know where to start or you doubt if you even have it in you. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. There is a way through. The problem isn’t you; the problem is the problem. This talk will lay down the foundation to take you from “Here’s what I want to do” to “Here’s what I did” (and have the mindset to do it all over again).

Closing Ceremony & Closing Keynote: Your Authentic YOU

Jerrie Johnson and her family grew up very poor and even homeless on multiple occasions. Although life was not easy living in poverty, surviving abuse and trauma, not feeling a sense of belonging, Jerrie still knew that she wanted more out of life, that her purpose would transcend her circumstances. The hardships she experienced as a child and her ability to identify blindspots in the ecosystem of how we live is what initiated her advocacy for food accessibility and wellness in underserved neighborhoods, being a helper and a healer to those wanting to break generational curses, and ultimately making her the master manifester that she is today.

Leave this keynote feeling empowered and clear but also curious about how what we have consumed affected who we have become and the tools to bring us back to our most authentic self.

We’ll need some Scotch for those.)

When he’s not doing things that might make a good story one day, he’s probably reading, getting heartbroken by his beloved Arsenal Football Club, or enjoying time with his wife in Portland, OR.

Sam Kirk

Sam Kirk

Artist | Creative Director

Sam Kirk is a multidisciplinary artist who explores culture and identity politics through her creations. Her artwork focuses on various intersections that encompass a call to celebrate differences and enact change. Her paintings include vivid, powerful images of women, members of the LGBTQIA community and those who have been historically excluded.

Throughout her childhood, her family’s frequent moves to various Chicago neighborhoods sparked her fascination with the nuances of the human experience. During these moments, she found herself discovering the cultures of the city and sorting through her own identity as a bi-racial, queer woman. Like her life, Kirk’s artwork has been an ongoing narrative about how life’s experiences impact our identity. Her vibrant color palette, intricate line-work and layered backgrounds highlight cultural communities via multi-toned figures recalled from her travels throughout the world. Additionally, Kirk’s public murals often address social issues, as she intentionally uses the public space to spark dialogue around topics of equality and visibility for women, communities of color and the LGBTQIA community.

She has been recognized for her public art career, which focuses on highlighting women, underrepresented communities and the LGBTQIA community. She is the first woman and American to participate in the Annual CASAMOUJA Street Art Festival in Casablanca, Morocco. A commission by World Business Chicago and the City of Casablanca, Kirk created the “Sister Cities” mural to celebrate 35 years of programming between Chicago and Casablanca. Her first short film animation, “Color of Tomorrow”, a collaboration with writer and director Michelle M. Collins, received a 2020 Davey Award, 2021 Telly Award, and 2021 Communicator Award. She is the recipient of the 2020 Human First Award and a 2021 LGBTQ Honoree from the State of Illinois for her work with the LGBTQ Community.

She has been featured in O Magazine, Forbes, and she was recently listed as one of the top 50 Artists of 2020 in Chicago by New City Magazine. Her collaborations include global brands and non-profit organizations such as Harper Collins Publishers, Xfinity/Comcast, Vans, World Business Chicago, National Domestic Workers Alliance and WBEZ.
