Liability Insurance

Directors and Officers Liability Insurance

Directors and officers (D&O) liability insurance coverage is purchased annually by the AMA Support Center on behalf of AMA professional chapter board members to protect against legal claims brought for alleged wrongful acts in their capacity as directors and officers. Chapters must conduct board elections in accordance with the AMA Professional Chapter Election Process to ensure proper D&O coverage.

General Liability & Certificates of Insurance

The AMA Support Center also extends general liability coverage to all AMA professional chapters. General liability insurance covers everyday hazards like someone tripping on a cord at an event or a projector being damaged when someone spills a drink on it.  Chapters can utilize this coverage to provide a certificate of insurance for scheduled events as required by some venues.

It is important to note that general liability insurance does not cover event cancellation.  If you need to cancel an event due to, let’s say, a pandemic or a hurricane, our insurance does not cover cancellation fees or catering minimums.  We suggest ensuring you have a solid Force Majeure clause in your venue contracts to protect against such circumstances.

It is also important to note that general liability does not cover losses caused by chapter leaders’ actions.  For example, let’s say a board member accidentally gives out your chapter credit card number in a phishing scam.  This will not be covered, which makes it doubly important to ensure you have proper fraud protection policies in place (see https://ama-preprod.go-vip.co/ama_chapleader/are-you-around-today-i-need-a-favor-protect-your-chapter-against-financial-email-fraud/)
