Marketing researchers and practitioners alike have grown increasingly concerned that consumption at the current rates is unsustainable (McDonagh and Protero, 2014). Significant scholarly attention has been given to how to best encourage more sustainable consumption (White, Habib and Hardisty 2019) and enduring sustainable social practice change (Gonzalez-Arcos et al., 2021). However, such prior research is largely tied to the assumptions imposed by established market systems and dominant consumption paradigms.
