We are inviting applications for a paper development workshop (PDW) to be held on November 25th – 26th, 2021 via Zoom, hosted and organized by the Department of Marketing, Macquarie Business School, Sydney, Australia. The interactive workshop will be led by the JCR Editors, Professor Andrew Stephen (Saïd Business School, University of Oxford), and Stacy Wood (NC State University). Application deadline is October 15th, 2021. Decisions will be communicated by October 25th, 2021.

Overall Aims

  1. Provide prospective authors with an understanding of what JCR seeks to publish
  2. Provide prospective authors with an understanding of issues that might lead to rejection (initial or later round) of a paper.
  3. Encourage pre-submission interaction between JCR editor and potential authors towards alignment of manuscripts with JCR priorities.
  4. Establish a forum for JCR editor and editorial board members to work with prospective authors on manuscripts that are in progress (working papers).
  5. Support networking between scholars in the consumer research domain and sharing of ideas.

Application Procedure

  • To allow for effective idea and paper development, the number of participants will be limited to a maximum of 12 papers. Participation in the PDW is by application only.
  • Inclusion evaluation will focus on potential benefit for the author as well as the potential of the research to make significant theoretical and meaningful contributions to the field of marketing.
  • The application should be sent to jun.yao@mq.edu.au with the subject line indicating “JCR PDW”. Please include the following (in one single PDF file):
    • Cover letter indicating status of the paper (completed manuscript, additional data collection planned, etc.), research question, and intended contribution.
    • Extended abstract (up to 3,000 words)

Stacy Wood, Editor
NC State University

Stacy Wood is the Langdon Distinguished University Professor of Marketing, NC State, and the Executive Director of the Consumer Innovation Collaborative. Her research explores the human side of innovation—how people learn about, adopt, adapt to, or reject new things—from high tech products to societal trends. Dr. Wood is a multi-methodologist with published work in top journals using behavioral experiments, ethnography, mathematical models, and physiological metrics (e.g., fMRI). Her awards in research include the 1997 MSI–H. Paul Root Award for the JM paper that made the most significant contribution to marketing practice, the 2005 AMA-Louis W. Stern Award for best paper in marketing and channels, 2005 Marketing Science Institute Young Scholar, and runner-up for the 2010 Park Prize for Best Paper, JCP. She co-chaired the 2014 Association for Consumer Research (ACR) North American conference and was elected ACR President in 2018.

Andrew Stephen, Editor
Saïd Business School

Andrew Stephen is the L’Oréal Professor of Marketing, Associate Dean of Research, and Director of the Oxford Future of Marketing Initiative at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. His research, predominantly on topics that lie at the intersections of consumer behavior, digital technologies, and marketing communications have appeared in leading journals such as Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Science, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Harvard Business Review, and Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science. His research has received a number of awards, and he was honored by the Marketing Science Institute both as an MSI Young Scholar and as an MSI Scholar. Prior to his JCR editorship, he was co-editor of the International Journal of Research in Marketing. Within the marketing profession, he serves in an advisory capacity to a number of organizations, such as the Institute for Real Growth (board member), General Assembly (marketing standards board member), and Teradata (advanced analytics council).
