Lowell E. Crow of Western Michigan University passed away on 15 April 2021

Lowell E. Crow, professor emeritus of marketing at Western Michigan University, passed away at age 85 in Bloomington IN on April 15, 2021. He was diagnosed with Parkinson’s movement disorder in 2005.

Lowell received his B.S in electrical engineering from Purdue University, where he attended on a ROTC Navy Scholarship.  After serving in Italy with the U.S. Army and working for RCA in Marion IN, he received his MBA and DBA in marketing from Indiana University. Following graduation, he taught at Albion College as Eli Lilly Lecturer in Marketing. Lowell joined the WMU faculty in 1974. He served as chair of the Department of Marketing from 1984 until 1991, as associate dean of the Haworth College of Business from 1991 until 1995, and as interim dean from 1993 to 1994, before retiring in 2000. Beloved by his students, he received the WMU Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1980.

In addition to articles articles in the Journal of Marketing Research and Industrial Marketing Management, Lowell authored numerous refereed proceedings and was awarded a number of research grants and contracts. He conducted over two dozen customer satisfaction studies for the Defense Logistics Information Service, U.S. Defense Logistics Agency, and consulted with a variety of firms. Lowell served as president of the West Michigan Chapter of the American Marketing Association and as director of academic placement for the Academy of Marketing Science. Within the community, he served as president of Hospice of Greater Kalamazoo, Inc., and as vice president of the Kalamazoo Downtown Lions Club.
