AMA’s Marketing & Society SIG is very pleased to announce that Chris Berry, Assistant Professor of Marketing for Colorado State University, has been selected for the 2020 Emerging Scholar award by the Marketing and Society Special Interest Group (MASSIG) of the American Marketing Association.  The MASSIG Emerging Scholar Award is given to honor the contributions of a researcher in the earlier stages of their academic career who tackles societal issues of significance that substantially advance our understanding of these issues. Chris was chosen for his rigorous scholarship which focuses on the regulatory effects of warnings, labeling, corrective advertising and health claims and their impact on the consumer. His work is not only theoretically relevant but of great practical significance for individual and societal well-being. The publication of his work in top tier outlets such as the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Advertising and Journal of Retailing demonstrates both the quality and relevance of Chris’s work to our greater society.

His research is also well-cited and been requested by critically important public policy organizations such as the Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission.  In particular, what makes his 14 publications remarkable is that he has been able to achieve this in only 3 short years since graduating from his doctoral program at the University of Arkansas in 2017.  In line with the type of researcher this award seeks to acknowledge, Chris has created a body of work that addresses a myriad of issues relevant policy issues, all with methodological rigor and relevance to academic and professional audiences. His work is recognized by his appointment to the editorial review boards of the Journal of Advertising and the Journal of Business Research, bringing topics of public policy and societal relevance to business journals. He is also active in the marketing and public policy community and we look forward to his taking a leadership role in the future.

The purpose of AMA’s MASSIG is to foster and support a research community that makes a difference in the world. Chris truly embodies the spirit of the MASSIG. Please join members of the MASSIG in congratulating Chris.
