I must inform you of some very sad news: Prof. George J. Avlonitis has suddenly passed away on December 16th, shortly after speaking at an event of the Greek Marketing Academy.

George was a former President (2008-2010) and VP (1990-1993) of the European Marketing Academy, EMAC Fellow, and the current President of the Greek Marketing Academy.

He was emeritus Professor of Marketing at the Athens University of Economics and Business, and an active researcher and educator as a visiting professor at the University of Strathclyde and the American-Hellenic University. He was an international authority in industrial marketing and product innovation management, with work published in Journal of Marketing, IJRM, JAMS, and many specialized journals.

He was currently serving on the editorial boards of Industrial Marketing Management, and the European Journal of Marketing. George’s impact is also shown by his more than 30 former PhD students, many of whom continue his legacy in their own distinguished careers.

Spiros Gounaris, one of his former students, has informed us that the funeral service is scheduled on Thursday December 19th, 2pm local time, at the Voula cemetery in Athens.
