Challenging the Boundaries of Marketing Editorial and Initiative
This new initiative is a series of innovative articles intended to push the current boundaries of the field by identifying and encouraging new research agendas. Importantly, these articles are designed to be forward-looking—they are not review articles. We seeded this initiative with two interdisciplinary teams of authors. The first paper, “Marketing in a Sharing Economy” by Giana Eckhardt, Mark Houston, Baojun Jiang, Cait Lamberton, Aric Rindfleisch, and Georgios Zervas, takes the field’s first deep look at how marketing will change in a sharing economy and includes a future research agenda. Two commentaries are offered by Arun Sundararajan and Yubo Chen and Liantao (Tarry) Wang.
The second paper in the series written by Jonah Berger, Ashlee Humphreys, Stephan Ludwig, Wendy Moe, Oded Netzer, and David Schweidel is entitled “Uniting the Tribes: Using Text for Marketing Insight.” This paper focuses on how the marketing community can develop stronger insights from text, including resolving questions about validity and metrics as well as driving future research opportunities.
We invite teams of authors to review the guidelines for this initiative in our September editorial and submit proposals. We look forward to your involvement in driving more exploration in the field!
