The American Academy of Advertising (AAA) seeks an Editor for the Journal of Advertising (JA), published five times a year by Routledge Taylor & Francis Group (RTF). Editorship is a three-year appointment. The JA Editor appoints members to the Editorial Board, works with RTF to ensure a timely production process, provides semi-annual reports to the AAA Publications Committee regarding submissions and processes, oversees the journal’s content, and helps promote the journal by representing it at relevant conferences through Meet the Editor sessions and other similar opportunities. Candidates must be current members in good standing of AAA. JA encourages discovery and development of (a) valid theory and relevant facts regarding the behavioral and philosophical aspects of advertising communications, and (b) the relationships between these and other components of the advertising business and related processes.?

Candidates should provide evidence of demonstrated excellence in research and publication in the field of advertising. Preference is given to candidates whose educational background, experience, and research accomplishments provide direction for the future development of JA. The Editor is expected to attend the AAA annual conferences and report to the AAA Publications Committee (which reports to the Executive Committee) and is required to be an AAA member during the period of Editorship. Endorsement from the Editor’s institution is required. Finalists will be interviewed at the 2019 AAA Annual Conference in Dallas, TX, March 28-31, 2019. The selected editor begins the transition period in June 2019 in preparation to take over as editor full time on January 1, 2020.

To Apply: Submit (1) letter of interest, (2) statement of publishing philosophy and relevant experience, (3) strategic vision for the Journal of Advertising, (4) current vita, and (5) statement of support from your university director, chair, or dean, including any specifics as to whether your institution can provide release time from other duties.
