2019 AMA Winter Academic Conference
February 22-24, 2019 – Austin, TX
Sport & Sponsorship-Linked Marketing Special Interest Group (SportSIG)

"Navigating the Complexity of New Media and Technologies in Sport & Sponsorship-Linked Marketing"

The Sport & Sponsorship-Linked Marketing Special Interest Group (SportSIG) of the American Marketing Association (AMA) seeks research abstracts for inclusion in a special session proposal for the 2019 AMA Winter Academic Conference.

Abstracts may be on any topic related to sport or sponsorship-linked marketing; however, research related to the session theme of "Navigating the Complexity of New Media and Technologies in Sport & Sponsorship-Linked Marketing" is especially encouraged.

This year’s conference theme is "Understanding Complexity, Transforming the Marketplace." The proliferation of new media and technologies over the past few years has radically transformed the sport industry and the way fans consume content. As a result, new media and technologies have increased the complexity of sport and sponsorship-linked marketing. Consequently, this special session focuses on the opportunities and challenges new media and technologies present and their potential impact on business outcomes for sport organizations.

Potential topics may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Arena technology
  • Data/measurement platforms
  • Digital media
  • Esports
  • Injury prevention
  • Interactivity
  • Mobile applications
  • Mobile technologies
  • New technologies
  • Over-the-top streaming
  • Social media
  • Virtual/augmented reality
  • Wearable technology
