Revisit: Summer AMA 2017

Introduction

Recently tenured faculty reception, San Francisco, 14 Aug 2017

Were you granted tenure this year?

Congratulations on a special achievement!

During Summer AMA, an inaugural meeting of recently tenured marketing faculty will be held on Friday, August 4th, at 7:15pm at Pica Pica Arepa Kitchen, 401 Valencia Street, SF 94103.

Associate Professor Michelle Steward and Professor Jim Narus of Wake Forest University will host this inaugural reception.

Sports aficionados suggest that a team is most vulnerable after the team scores. Resting after a victory, or post-goal reset, can reduce acceleration toward the next big goal.

In the weeks after I was granted tenure in 2010, a dear friend asked me perhaps the single most important question, “What’s next?” This question caused me to think carefully about my post-tenure pursuits. Up to that time, my focus had been on a singular goal of becoming a tenured marketing professor. What would be next?

The inaugural meeting of recently tenured marketing professors offers an opportunity to enhance the acceleration of the pursuit of your next career goal by learning more about yourself through a lens of a community setting.

Goal setting research has found that efforts toward achieving the next goal are enhanced when we learn something about ourselves (see Drèze and. Nunes April 2011 JMR for more). Benefit from discussing with new colleagues in the academy the question of, “What’s next?”
