The Marketing Strategy SIG is delighted to announce that Prof. Eric (Er) Fang is the winner of the 2015 Varadarajan Award for Early Career Contributions to Marketing Strategy Research. A three member panel of past award winners and JM Editors found Prof. Fang’s research accomplishments to be highly remarkable and deserving of this year’s award.
Eric is currently an Associate Professor of Marketing and James Tower Faculty Fellow at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He serves as the Academic Director of the Master of Science Program in Business Administration. Professor Fang’s research focuses on marketing strategy in high-tech and business-to-business industries, and business model innovations such as customer involvement and platform strategies. He has published more than ten articles in leading marketing and management journals such as the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Science, Organization Science, and the Journal of International Business Studies. His research has won the best AMA Service Paper Award and has been featured several times in the Economist, Advertising Age, and other publications. In 2011, he was named a Marketing Science Institute (MSI) Young Scholar. Eric teaches core marketing strategy to MBA students, and China strategy to Executive MBA students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has won numerous teaching awards such as the Best MBA Professor Final List. Eric’s consulting experience includes work with clients such as Huawei, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), GE medical equipment, and Caterpillar. He received his Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Congratulations to Eric Fang.
