Catherine Tucker is the recipient of the AMA Foundation's 2015 Erin Anderson Award

CHICAGO, IL — February 12, 2015–The American Marketing Association Foundation (AMAF) announces Catherine Tucker, the Mark Hyman Jr. Career Development Professor and Associate Professor of Management Science at MIT Sloan, as the recipient of the 2015 Erin Anderson Award for an emerging female marketing scholar and mentor.

An expert in the fields of online advertising, digital health, social media, and electronic privacy, Professor Tucker’s research primarily lies in the interface between Marketing, Economics and Law. She is particularly interested in how technology allows firms to use digital data to improve their operations and marketing and in the challenges this poses for regulations designed to promote innovation. She serves as Associate Editor at Management Science, Co-Editor at Quantitative Marketing and Economics and Co-Editor of the recent NBER volume on the Economics of Digitization.

Professor Tucker teaches MIT Sloan’s MBA Elective on `Pricing’ and the Executive MBA course `Marketing Management for the Senior Executive’. She also teaches in various specialized executive education programs on entrepreneurship, creating thriving platforms ecosystems and innovation. Professor Tucker has been the recipient of top teaching honors, including the Jamieson Prize for Excellence in Teaching as well as recognition as `Teacher of the Year’ at MIT Sloan.

The Erin Anderson Award recognizes and honors the life of Erin Anderson, a widely respected mentor and marketing scholar from INSEAD whose research made significant contributions to the marketing discipline. Not only was Professor Anderson a distinguished scholar; she was a dedicated mentor. She shared her experiences and insights with many faculty members and Ph.D. students as they launched their academic careers. Erin Anderson encouraged and enabled women in academe.

Professor Tucker also sets a leading example for women early in their career, demonstrating how they can balance their academic lives with their personal ones and find success in both areas. “Catherine has a remarkable publication record, 20 top-tier articles in 9 years. Her work has been supported by 16 grants, including an NSF CAREER Award. She did all this while having twins, which has put her in a position to provide career and family advice to other early-career academic women,” said Leigh McAlister, Chair, 2015 Erin Anderson Award Committee.

Professor Tucker was awarded the 7th annual Erin Anderson Award on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the AMA Winter Marketing Educators’ Conference in San Antonio, TX.

The committee for the 2015 Erin Anderson Award included marketing professors Leigh McAlister, University of Texas at Austin (Chair); Peter Fader, University of Pennsylvania; Hubert Gatignon, INSEAD; Wendy Moe, University of Maryland; and Joachim Vosgerau, Tilburg University.
