IJRM Attracts Rust

Introduction

Roland Rust will edit the International Journal of Research in Marketing starting Jul 2015

New Editor of the International Journal of Research in Marketing (IJRM)

As the term of the present editors, Jacob Goldenberg and Eitan Muller, ends in 2015, and since they indicated that they do not wish to take on a second term, a Search Committee was established by the EMAC Steering Committee to appoint a new editor for the International Journal of Research in Marketing. The Search Committee consisted of three members: Marnik Dekimpe (ex-officio as Vice President Publications), and Hubert Gatignon and Stefan Stremersch as past editors.

After a careful process, in which the Search Committee solicited input from several members of the EMAC Community and the IJRM Editorial Review Board, the Search Committee is pleased to announce that it has appointed Roland Rust as the new editor.

Roland is Distinguished University Professor and David Bruce Smith Chair in Marketing at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland (USA), and Visiting Chair in Marketing Science at Erasmus University (Netherlands).

He is also International Research Fellow at Oxford University (UK), International Fellow at the Service Research Center, Karlstad University (Sweden), and Fellow at the Institute for Sustainable Innovation and Growth at Fudan University (China). At Maryland he is founder and Executive Director of two research centers: the Center for Excellence in Service and the Center for Complexity in Business.

His lifetime achievement honors include the AMA Irwin/McGraw-Hill Distinguished Marketing Educator Award, Fellow of the INFORMS Society for Marketing Science, the Paul D. Converse Award, AMA’s Career Contributions to the Services Discipline Award, AMA’s Churchill Award for Lifetime Achievement in Marketing Research, the Distinguished Marketing Educator Award from the Academy of Marketing Science, AMA’s Mahajan Award for Career Contribution to Marketing Strategy, the Outstanding Contributions to Research in Advertising award from the American Academy of Advertising, Fellow of the American Statistical Association, the Elsevier Distinguished Marketing Scholar Award from SMA, two distinguished doctoral alumnus awards from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA), and an honorary doctorate from the University of Neuchatel (Switzerland).

He has won numerous best article and best book awards, including four best article awards from the Journal of Marketing. He served as Editor of the Journal of Marketing, founded the annual Frontiers in Service Conference, and was founding Editor of the Journal of Service Research. He is currently Vice President of External Relations for the European Marketing Academy (EMAC).

Roland’s term will start on July 1, 2015. He will work closely with Jacob and Eitan to arrange a smooth transition. All new submissions from July 1 onwards will be handled by Roland, while revised manuscripts (for which the first-round decision letter was written before July 1) will still be handled by Jacob and Eitan. From January 1, 2016 onwards, Roland will handle all manuscripts.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Jacob and Eitan for their wonderful job in leading IJRM during the last three years. They have dedicated much of their time and energy to our community, and have significantly enhanced the quality, rigor and reputation of IJRM.

The Search Committee is confident that the new editor will continue this growth trajectory of IJRM.
