About the event

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences is pleased to announce an international gathering of high-potential junior and senior academics who have one common goal: to push the boundaries in interdisciplinary research in social sciences and health care. The overarching goal of the Interdisciplinary Summer School is both to stimulate the individual research of each participant and to develop an intensive knowledge exchange. All participants contribute their expertise from multiple scientific backgrounds, such as economics, medicine, or sociology, and create a sustainable research network.

Theme: "Inclusive Innovation in Health Care"

Health outcomes vary across countries and populations. Particular groups of people experience lower quality of health care services or are less likely to receive routine medical procedures. With a specific focus on those who are disenfranchised from the tremendous benefit of medical progress, this Interdisciplinary Summer School focuses on the potential of inclusive innovation as a tool to reduce health inequalities.

Program and Research Priorities

The six-day program is filled with a number of keynotes by renowned international experts, presentations and workshops. The following core themes will be addressed:

§  Health care systems as framework for inclusive innovation

§  Inclusive medical technologies

§  ICT as enabler for inclusiveness

§  Patient capabilities

§  Business models for inclusive innovations

Invited speakers are Gerry George (Imperial College London, UK), Bart Nieuwenhuis (University of Twente, Netherlands),  Günter Schreier (Austrian Institute of Technology, Austria), and others.
