2014 ROBERT B. CLARKE OUTSTANDING EDUCATOR AWARD WINNER
NEW YORK – Wednesday, March 26, 2014 – Marketing EDGE, a nonprofit education organization (formerly known as the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation), announced today that Charlotte Mason, Ph.D., Professor of Marketing at the University of Georgia Terry College of Business will receive this year’s Robert B. Clarke Outstanding Educator Award, recognizing an academician’s overall achievement in marketing education. The honor will be presented among her peers at Marketing EDGE’s 2014 Marketing Research Summit (www.researchsummit.org) Awards Luncheon on Sunday, October 26, at the San Diego Convention Center, San Diego, CA.
The 2014 Marketing Research Summit gathers academicians and Ph.D. candidates who are interested in researching and teaching data-driven marketing, spanning digital, social, and database marketing topics. It will be held in conjunction with the Direct Marketing Association’s DMA2014 Annual Conference & Exhibition (www.dma14.org).
“This special award is our only award that requires agreement from both academics and practitioners, and illustrates the high level of respect Dr. Mason has among her fellow academics as well as within the business marketplace,” said Marketing EDGE President Terri L. Bartlett. “Take a look at her body of dynamic research, among it her current focus on the hot topic of infographics as well as strategic issues surrounding customer relationship management. It is our privilege to acknowledge not only Dr. Mason’s past and current work in our field, but also to the contributions she is destined to make.”
"I am deeply honored to receive the Clarke Award,” Dr. Charlotte Mason said. “Ed Deming said, ‘In God we trust. All others bring data.’ Businesses are now awash in data — ‘big data.’ As an educator who develops course materials and teaches marketing analytics, this is a most exciting and fulfilling time. Students who are able to work with data and apply it to business questions are increasingly sought after in what some have called, ‘the sexiest job of the 21st Century.’ Having the marketing education and business communities work together in this process is vital – and Marketing EDGE has a long history of helping to build such bridges, in the tradition of the award’s namesake, Robert B. Clarke.”
Dr. Mason also is Head of the Department of Marketing and Director of the Coca-Cola Center for Marketing Studies at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, where she also is the C. Herman and Mary Virginia Terry Chair of Business Administration. Formerly she was at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, since completing her doctorate in business from Stanford University in 1985.
Dr. Mason’s research also focuses on the development and testing of marketing models and applications of multivariate statistics to marketing problems. Her research has been published in leading academic journals in the marketing field, among them the Journal of Interactive Marketing. Dr. Mason’s current teaching focuses on Marketing Analytics and Decision-Making, Customer Relationship Strategy and Practices, and Database Marketing.
In addition to the award presentation during the Marketing EDGE Research Summit, Dr. Mason also will be introduced as an honoree the preceding evening, at Marketing EDGE’s Annual Awards Dinner on Saturday, October 25, also in San Diego, CA, at the US Grant Hotel (www.marketingEDGE.org/AnnualAwardsDinner). The Annual Awards Dinner, also held in conjunction with DMA2014, is where marketing professionals gather to support Marketing EDGE in its mission to educate, develop, grow and employ college students in the field of marketing, thereby, expanding and enriching the talent pool of market-ready professionals, and includes the participation of students, young professionals and educators as well.
