Thomas J. Madden, Professor of Marketing at the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, passed away on 23 Feb 2014

It is with great sadness that colleagues and friends share the news that Dr. Thomas J. Madden passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014. Tom was Professor of Marketing at the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, where he was on faculty since 1986.

Born and raised in Haverhill, Massachusetts, he was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. Tom earned his BS at the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut; his MBA at California State University, Fresno; and his PhD at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Tom was the co-author of several marketing management and marketing research books and was published in the major marketing as well as social psychology journals. Tom, along with his coauthors, received the Paul E. Green Award for the best paper in the Journal of Marketing Research in 2001, and was the recipient of the Sheth Foundation Award for Best Paper published in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science in 2006.

His recent research focused on brand equity measurement and its impact on shareholder value. Over his career he won numerous teaching awards. He established a vast network of friends around the world through his teaching and consulting in countries such as Austria, China, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Portugal and Slovakia.

Surviving are his wife, two children, and five grandchildren. His humor, passion, and love of life will be missed by his family, friends, colleagues and students.
