Introduction
What I Wish I Would Have Known as a Young Scholar, Winter AMA Pre-Conference Event, Sponsored by DocSIG, Orlando, FL, 21 Feb 2014
Hello DocSIG members,
As the fall semester winds down, it’s time to start thinking about your plans for Winter AMA 2014. DocSIG is proud to offer four exciting opportunities for you in Orlando:
Back by popular demand, register for DocSIG’s Annual Pre-Conference Symposium on Friday, February 21, 2014, 8:00 AM-12:30 PM.
The theme of this year’s symposium is "What I Wish I Would Have Known as a Young Scholar" and will feature 12 distinguished scholars who will speak on a variety of topics:
- Starting the dissertation
- Defending the proposal and final dissertation
- Applying for jobs
- Summer AMA and campus interviews
- Surviving the first year at the first job
- Applying for tenure
New this year: DocSIG is teaming up with TechSIG for a joint session. Members will enjoy networking while playing a game focused on what makes academic research "catch on." You won’t want to miss this fun and unique opportunity to meet new people and to brainstorm about what makes research go viral!
Seating is limited, so please RSVP as early as possible. To register, doctoral students can call the American Marketing Association at 1.800.262.1150 and include registration for the symposium with their conference registration. The symposium registration fee is $45 (if you register by January 9, 2014) and includes breakfast and lunch at the event.
Then, on Friday evening (February 21), please join DocSIG for dinner, 6:30-9:00 PM.
Get to know your colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere. DocSIG members will meet for dinner near the conference hotel (exact restaurant is TBD but will be announced soon). Please bring cash, as it is easier to split bills at large tables. This event is limited to the first 40 students to RSVP at http://bit.ly/19Ry0jy.
DocSIG’s Annual Mentor Networking Breakfast: Saturday, February 22, 2014, 7:30-8:30 AM.
In addition to free breakfast, you’ll have the opportunity to meet other doctoral students from across the country as well as learn from hand-picked faculty about topics important to you, your research, and careers. It will be a great event!
*Note: This event is for marketing doctoral students and invited faculty. The event is free, but attendance is limited to 35 students due to space. If you come to the event without registration, you’ll be asked to wait while registered attendees are accommodated first; a waitlist seat can’t be guaranteed. This event reached capacity at Winter AMA 2013, so please register early at http://bit.ly/I8haGW. No paper ticket necessary.
On the afternoon of Saturday, February 22, plan on attending our Special Session with Conference Co-Chairs
Winter AMA 2014 conference co-chairs, Drs. Gary Hunter and Tom Steenburgh, will host a special session on hot topics in marketing research. You won’t want to miss this special opportunity! No RSVP is required.
Our events are popular, so please RSVP early so that you don’t miss out. We look forward to seeing you in Orlando!
