Call for Papers

2014 ESCP-GAMMA JOINT SYMPOSIUM &

ESCP Europe Award 2014

The 2014 Global Marketing Conference (GMC) will be held in Singapore, on July 15–July 18, 2014. ESCP Europe and Global Alliance of Marketing & Management Associations jointly hold the 2014 ESCP-GAMMA Joint Symposium on

"The Self in Consumer/Psychological Research: Current Perspectives and Future Directions"

The Symposium is an opportunity to bring together scholars conducting research and publishing in this fascinating area of the consumer and psychology literature. Indeed, such is the research momentum in this field, that it sounds more than ever true that “the self-concept literature […] can be characterized as fragmented, incoherent, and highly diffuse”, as Sirgy pointed back in 1982. With exciting developments, such as recent findings from neuroscience (see Heatherton, 2011 for a review), Belk’s “Extended Self in a Digital World” (2013), and several other new conceptualizations and typologies, research on the self and its implications for consumers and everyday life remains one of the cornerstones of marketing; this Symposium offers a forum for discussion, integration and reviewing.

Conceptual and empirical manuscripts are welcome. Indicative topics include – but are not limited to – the following:

· Historical overview of research on the self (self; self-concept; self-construal; identity; social identity; and many other perspectives)

· New developments, dimensions and typologies of the self

· Functions of the self and implications in everyday life

· Cognitive, emotional and behavioural aspects of the self

· Temporal dimensions of the self

· Situational vs. chronic aspects of the self

· Culture and the self

· Gender and the self

· Neuroscience and the self

· The self in the digital age

Submissions must be received by January 15, 2014. All submissions, reviewing and notifications will be conducted electronically. If you do not receive confirmation of your submission within seven days, please contact the track chair. Please submit manuscripts in an MS WORD document in Times New Roman 12-font. All papers accepted for review will be subjected to a double-blind peer review procedure. Initial submissions for the conference track should have page numbers and be limited to 20 pages of text in length (double space). The format of the papers must comply with the guidelines of the Journal of Business Research. Please place all tables and figures at the end of the manuscript (following the references). Information identifying the submission authors (affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address) should only be listed on the title page.

All the papers presented in the ‘ESCP-GAMMA Joint Symposium’ will be candidates for the ESCP Europe AWARD 2014. The 3 best papers will be selected by a joint ESCP Europe and GAMMA Award Committee and will be awarded the following prizes:

1st Prize: US$ 1,500

2nd Prize: US$ 1,000

3rd Prize: US$ 750.

Please submit your paper before January 15 to the Symposium Chair: Prof. Minas N. Kastanakis (ESCP Europe), 527 Finchley Road, Hampstead, London NW3 7BG, UK, email: mkastanakis@escpeurope.eu, Tel: +44-77-8959-7031, Fax: +44-20- 7443- 8874.
