JCR Editor
Introduction
The Policy Board of the Journal of Consumer Research calls for nominations for editor of JCR; Deadline 15 Jul 2013
Call for Nominations (July 15, 2013 deadline)
Editor, Journal of Consumer Research (JCR)
July 1, 2014, to August 31, 2017
Mary Frances Luce, Ann McGill, and Laura Peracchio, the current coeditors of the Journal of Consumer Research, will end their term on June 30, 2014. In preparation for the transition to the next term, the JCR Policy Board is now opening a call for nominations for editorship of the journal. The editor is responsible for appointing an editorial review board, choosing associate editors, selecting manuscript reviewers, writing decision letters, and accepting articles for publication. The next editorial term will begin on July 1, 2014.
The Journal of Consumer Research is one of the most prestigious publications in the field of social science research today. The editor serves as an important intellectual leader for a vibrant multidisciplinary field of scholarship, significantly affecting the range of topics discussed in the area of consumer behavior. The number of manuscripts submitted to the journal has tripled over the past decade. This rate of growth appears likely to continue over the term of the next editor. For the next editorship, the Policy Board envisions a “default” model with one editor or editor-in- chief who may serve alone or with a small number of coeditors who will have complete editorial authority for a subset of papers submitted to the journal. The Policy Board is open to alternative organizational structures, including an editorial team, for the position.
Readers are asked to nominate candidates for editor, editor-in-chief, or coeditor roles, and qualified individuals are encouraged to apply. Candidates should not contact or identify potential associate editors at this time. Editor-in-chief candidates should propose a slate of one or more coeditors who would be subject to approval by the Policy Board. Applicants and nominees must have an outstanding record of scholarship in the discipline of consumer behavior. Candidates should have specific plans for ensuring and preserving the interdisciplinary nature of JCR and for competently, efficiently, and fairly handling submissions from authors from the broad range of disciplines contributing to JCR. Candidates should also have specific plans for ensuring that the journal remains an integrated whole with uniform standards and procedures.
This is a volunteer position, but the Policy Board will provide a $50,000 annual stipend that ay be used for activities directly beneficial to the editor or editorial team’s efforts in their stewardship of JCR, such as arranging for teaching release.
Please carefully read the documents regarding Policy Board policies and guidelines, candidate requirements, and editorial responsibilities at

Nominations must be received by the President of the Policy Board by July 15, 2013.
