Fashion Colloquia
Introduction
The Fashion Colloquia, Amsterdam, 23-24 Jan 2014; Deadline 30 Sep
CALL FOR PAPERS
The winter 2013-2014 edition of the Fashion Colloquia will take place at AMFI – Amsterdam Fashion Institute – on the 23rd and 24th of January. The theme for the conference is:
‘New Conversations in Fashion’
There has been a paradigm shift in the Fashion industry. Advances in technology, a rapidly changing global economy, fragmentation of the supply chain and the development of mobile commerce can be seen to be questioning the viability of traditional business models. Simultaneously there has been a perceivable rise in the number of global fashion weeks, from Columbia to Cape Town from Lagos to Lima, from Atlanta to Aberdeen. Between January and June 2010 and the same period in 2013 the number of emerging fashion weeks grew by approximately 25%. These changes may be considered disruptive by many as they are not only redefining the industry but also shaking the very core of our professional identities. Could these new voices provide new conversations to challenge the established order of the fashion capitals?
This conference will explore a new value-system for the fashion industry, one of fragmentation and democratization in which stakeholders are dealing with the tensions and dichotomies created by a borderless landscape. The sessions will focus on the themes outlined below:
Theme 1: New Technology: products, business models and processes.
Theme 2: New education: methods, delivery and achievements.
Theme 3: New voices: aesthetics, consumption and brands.
Access to the Colloquium at AMFI will be free of charge. Proposals for the Amsterdam Fashion Colloquium will have to be submitted as abstracts of 500 words maximum, in English, with the title and theme clearly indicated. Author’s personalia should be included on a separate page. Submissions will be via email only to amficolloquium@hva.nl and must be received by September 30, 2013. Applicants will be contacted by Oktober 15th, 2013 regarding their submission and full paper delivery.
