Some of the topics that will be covered in this interactive workshop on research and publishing include the following:
- Potential sources of ideas for scholarly research in business disciplines;
- Framing of research questions. Some examples from published journal articles of well stated and not so well stated research questions;
- Importance of research question. Critical self-assessment of importance of research question and clear articulation of the importance of the research question that is the focus of the study in a manuscript;
- Issues relating to theory, construct definitions, conceptual model development, hypothesis statement and conceptual support for hypothesis. Examples of construct definitions, conceptual model specification, hypotheses and derivative logic for hypotheses gleaned from manuscripts that shed insights in how and why they may be viewed as good or deficient during the manuscript review process;
- Research design, measurement issues and analysis. Some examples of problems in manuscripts submitted to journals with major problems in these areas that result in their being rejected during the review process); and
- Some commonly observed correctable and uncorrectable weaknesses in manuscripts submitted to scholarly journals in marketing for review and publication consideration.
