Eden Doctoral Seminar on Meta-Analysis for Management and Economics Research, 11-14 Mar, Brussels; Deadline 7 Jan

The European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management

EIASM is pleased to announce a new EDEN seminar.

Venue: EIASM, Brussels
Date: March 11-14, 2013
Deadline for Application: January 7, 2013

In all fields within Management and Economics, the body of research findings is growing continuously. Hence, numerous effects have been studied multiple times, and summarizing the existing empirical findings would be an important scientific contribution. Meta-analysis encompasses a set of statistical methods to conduct a systematic, quantitative review of the literature in order to derive empirical generalizations. As such, conducting a meta-analysis might be an excellent project for a PhD student or other (junior) researcher having to review the literature on a particular topic.

This four-day EDEN seminar will deal with methods and techniques for conducting a meta-analysis. The purpose is to train the participants to conduct a high-quality scientific meta-analysis within the broad field of management and economic research. The seminar will focus on the meta-analysis research process, from problem formulation, literature search, coding of the effects, analysis, to reporting the findings.

The emphasis is on knowledge and skills needed to conduct a meta-analysis, not on the statistical details. All steps of the meta-analysis process (including the statistical analyses) will be demonstrated and practiced in assignments during the sessions. In addition, all topics will be illustrated by means of actual meta-analysis examples from various management and economic disciplines. Participants will be informed about relevant literature (textbooks and journal articles) and software supporting meta-analysis projects.
