Consumer Psychology in a Social Media World
Call for Papers
The 2013 ACP Conference will focus on “Consumer Psychology in a Social Media World.” The conference program will examine the increasingly important roles social media plays in the daily activities of consumers and businesses. For consumers, social media provides forums for expressing identities, opportunities for following admired brands and personalities, tools for gathering and assembling knowledge, channels for raising awareness and supporting cause-related marketing efforts, accessing incentives for engaging in personal and group consumption behaviors, and creating a strong collective voice to influence corporate and public policies. For marketers, social media platforms offer novel avenues to connect and engage with customers, conduct relevant market research, monitor customer satisfaction, and to better manage customer relationships. The exchange process facilitated by social media is an exciting modern evolution of classic marketing thought and offers many opportunities for advancing theory and research in consumer psychology.
Specific areas of interest include (but are not limited to) consumer word of mouth and shopping behavior, group buying, the influence of smartphones and other forms of mobile communications on in-store and other shopping, the impact of current and future technological innovations, consumer response to shopping incentives, and globalization as enabled by the international flow of information. Preference will be given to manuscripts describing a long-term program of research and papers with strong theoretical foundations. A competitive, blind review process will be used for selecting papers. We welcome submissions from both academia and the industry, and intend to produce an edited book featuring the best conference papers.
The event is part of a long series of Advertising and Consumer Psychology annual conferences organized by the Society for Consumer Psychology. It will be held June 13-15, 2013 at the Omni Gaslamp Quarter Hotel in downtown San Diego, CA. The College of Business Administration and its Centre for Integrated Marketing Communications at San Diego State University will co-sponsor the event.
Please submit extended abstracts of up to 1,500 words by January 15, 2013 via email to any of the conference co-chairs: Claudiu Dimofte (cdimofte@mail.sdsu.edu), Curt Haugtvedt (Haugtvedt.1@osu.edu), or Richard Yalch (ryalch@uw.edu). Authors will receive decisions by March 15th. Please visit the SCP website (myscp.org) for updates and further conference details. We look forward to welcoming you to sunny, beautiful San Diego for what promises to be a great academic and social event early next summer!
