Scholars and practitioners are invited to submit abstracts for competitive papers or posters related to at least one of the following broad areas:

  • Current theoretical developments and practical applications in consumer behavior applied to tourism and hospitality
  • Ensuring validity in tourism consumer behavior studies and in hospitality research: Issues of measurement and methodology

Specifically, at least one of the following sub-topics should be covered:

  • Issues in well-being and quality-of-life research with a special emphasis on tourism
  • Co-creation and Tourist 2.0: Behavior and role in tourism value chains and distribution channels
  • Social influences on touristic experiences and behaviors (e.g. host-guest and guest-host interactions, social dynamics in travel groups)
  • Cognitive representations of destinations at various levels (local, regional, country, continent) and their affective/behavioral consequences (e.g., framing of destinations, destination-related images, multi-destination travel, multi-attraction tourist experiences)
  • Wine and gastronomy tourism: Contemporary issues and trends
  • Methodological aspects in assessing consumption-related constructs in tourism
  • Empirical generalizations and meta-analysis in tourism and hospitality research
  • Evaluation research applied to tourism and hospitality (e.g., event evaluation)
  • Web-based and mobile technology in tourism and hospitality

CBTS 2009 aims at offering an opportunity for scientific exchange among researchers and practitioners from all over the world working in the field of consumer behavior in tourism and related areas.

Accordingly, the thematic scope is on theoretical, methodological, and practical advances to relate consumer behavior issues to the area of tourism. Contributions to CBTS 2009 should be related to at least one of the following broad areas:

  • Current theoretical developments and practical applications in consumer behavior applied to tourism and hospitality

Selected papers will be published in special issues of the following journals. Following the conference, authors will have the opportunity to revise their papers further based on feedback from the conference prior to the January 30, 2010 submission date for full papers. Selected papers will then be subject to an expedited blind-review process.

Tourism related papers will be considered for publication in a special issue of Tourism Analysis.

Hospitality related papers will be considered for publication in a special issue of the International Journal of Hospitality Management.

<4> Program Structure

CBTS 2009 will offer the following opportunities for the presentation and discussion of research and scholarly thought:

  • Oral presentations within special topic sessions provide opportunities for focused attention on cutting-edge and important topics. They will encompass 20 minutes plus a discussion of 10 minutes, moderated by a member of the program committee.
  • In addition, the opportunity to present and discuss posters within exclusively designated time-slots will be given.
  • Opportunity to attend short courses on methodological aspects in tourism research, offered by leading experts in their respective fields.
  • Special time slots will be reserved for social events, such as skiing, hiking and walking-tours in the beautiful surrounding area:

  • Exhibitions will offer the opportunity to get in touch with the latest software, books, and services to the topics related to CBTS 2009. Moreover, short courses on the following topics will be offered:

    Abstract submissions are accepted May 30 July 31, 2009, via a Web-based form only, accessible via:

    During the abstract submission process, the following information must be provided:

    (1) Name(s), institutional affiliation(s), and valid email addresses for *all authors* (2) Postal address, telephone number, and fax number of the first author (3) Title of the contribution (4) Thematic area(s) addressed (5) Keywords (up to five) (6) Abstract of no more than 350 words (7) Type of contribution that is preferred: Poster or Paper

    PLEASE NOTE the following steps and important deadlines:

    Abstract submissions will be reviewed by at least two members of the program committee. Notification of a preliminary acceptance or refusal will be given by August 15, 2009.
    If a proposal is preliminarily accepted, at least one presenting author must register for the conference before October 15, 2009.

    Preliminarily accepted abstracts with no single author registered in time will be removed from the program without notice.
