THE SARASOTA-MANATEE CAMPUS
Mission: We are a small but growing part of a major national research university. Our particular mission is to provide high quality upper-division, graduate, and continuing professional education to the citizens of the greater Sarasota-Manatee region. We are committed to supporting faculty career development commensurate with the University’s research mission. We are engaged in service that is responsive to and advances the cultural, social, and economic well-being of communities at large. We will give our graduates a competitive advantage by nurturing three sets of skills. First, we will make certain that our graduates are competent in their respective fields of concentration. Second, we will teach them for the general intellectual skills expected of university graduates including, for example, the ability to analyze and evaluate competing ideas and to approach problem solving in a constructive scientific manner. Third, we will strive to nurture attitudes vital to success and to life-long learning. Competence in one’s discipline, good critical/analytical skills, and a positive attitude towards problem solving and learning are the three key attributes of the USF Sarasota-Manatee experience.
The campus provides the junior and senior years for some 28 Bachelors degrees as well as 11 Masters degrees. Opened in Fall of 2006, the 100,000 square-foot state-of-the-art academic facility has 26 classrooms, the Selby Auditorium, seminar and video-conferencing rooms, computer labs, a child-care center, student gathering places, faculty and staff offices, a technology and learning center, Einstein Brothers café, and facilities for the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management. We believe the campus setting with preserve areas, a pond and walking paths, the plazas and courtyard, and access to the Sarasota bay front will enhance your experience at USF.
We know the community depends upon USF Sarasota-Manatee to prepare high demand professionals including the teachers, accountants, nurses, and community and business leaders. We are consistently supporting programs that align with community needs and help keep up with the latest technology developments. Our graduates stay here, work here and enhance our quality of life.
We take pride in our more than 13,000 alumni living and working in the region as civic and business leaders. Our community business partners help us connect their workforce needs with our campus programs and provide valuable internships that often lead to job opportunities upon graduation.
