2008 Robert D. Buzzell MSI Best Paper Award Winner Named

The Marketing Science Institute is pleased to announce the winner of the 2008 Robert D. Buzzell MSI Best Paper Award. This year’s winning paper is:

"Creating a Market Orientation: A Longitudinal, Multifirm, Grounded Analysis of Cultural Transformation" by Gary F. Gebhardt, Gregory S. Carpenter, and John F. Sherry, Jr., which was distributed in 2006 as an MSI working paper (MSI Report 06-107)

The award was instituted in 1993 to honor the authors of MSI working papers that have made the most significant contribution to marketing practice and thought. It also signals the kind of writing and research that is of lasting value to corporate marketing executives. Each year the award is given for the best MSI paper issued during the calendar year two years previous. The reason for this delay is to allow sufficient time to assess the impact of each paper on the field of marketing.

A two-stage process was used to select the winner. An advisory panel, consisting of MSI’s Academic Trustees and marketing executives on MSI’s Bridge and Executive Committees, nominated finalist papers for the award. Then, a ballot sent to all MSI Trustees was used to determine the winner.

More information on the award, a list of past winners, and the winning paper are available on the MSI website www.msi.org
