KERNAN Jerome Bernard. Died Thursday, November 22, 2007 on his 75th birthday. One of the founding members of ACR, past President of ACR, long time member of the JCR Editorial Board, chair of many dissertations including (a Ferber Award winner), and author of myriad journal articles — Jerry helped found the discipline we know today as consumer research. Jerry began his career at the University of Texas-Austin. From there he moved to the University of Cincinnati, where he resided for about 20 years, before moving to George Mason University, from which he retired.

Survived by his children Kathleen (Melvin) Bedree and Brian (Anne) Kernan, their mother Elizabeth Cappel Kernan, and his grandchildren Joseph, Samuel, and Helen Bedree and Michael and Megan Kernan. Also survived by his youngest brother Daniel Kernan of Springfield, Ohio. Preceded in death by his oldest brother Elmer Kernan and his three sisters Marian Lammers, Roseanne Hummel, and Alice Conte, but survived by their spouses Joan Kernan, Gerald Lammers, Andrew Hummel, and Anthony Conte. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said Thursday, November 29th at 11 A.M. at the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 3457 Clifton Avenue. The family asks that no flowers be sent. Rather, to honor Jerry’s lifetime of scholarship, teaching and love for books, memorials should be directed to The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, 800 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202 or to the school or charity of one’s choice. The Gwen Mooney Funeral Home have been entrusted with final arrangements.
