FACULTY POSITION
SERVICES MARKETING MANAGEMENT
Cornell University
School of Hotel Administration
Ithaca, New York
Position description: The School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University is seeking applications for one tenure-track position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the area of services marketing management. We seek candidates with top-tier academic ambitions whose research and teaching interests can be easily applied to the hospitality industry, which is broadly defined to include foodservice, lodging and travel related businesses. Services marketing scholars doing research from an operations and/or strategic perspective are particularly encouraged to apply. Candidates should be interested in developing their research ideas for both top-tier academic journals and for the hospitality practitioner audience. However, we do not require previous research or business experience in hotel management or hospitality. The Hotel School provides unique data sets and industry connections that can facilitate the candidate’s future research about the industry.
Teaching is also highly valued at the Hotel School. The teaching load is three courses per academic year for faculty demonstrating strong research productivity. The successful candidate would teach at least one section of the required introductory marketing course (at either the undergraduate or graduate level) and would have the opportunity to develop electives based on their research interests.
Rank and salary: The tenure-track professorial position is a three-year, renewable appointment to begin in Fall 2008. Rank and salary will be determined based upon academic achievement and experience. Appointments are nine-month terms with attractive fringe benefits. This position comes with excellent research support and a salary highly competitive with top U.S. business schools.
Institution: Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration (SHA) is recognized worldwide as the premier institution of hospitality management, and its alumni dominate the top managerial echelons of a broadly-defined, multi-national hospitality industry, which includes hotel corporations, airlines, restaurants, tourism, hospitality suppliers, internet companies, etc. The Cornell University campus is located in the Finger Lakes region of New York State, one of the most scenic areas of the country, and the region offers a wide variety of both winter and summer activities. For further information about the University and SHA, visit the website at www.cornell.edu or www.hotelschool.cornell.edu
Application: Please submit via email or hard copy a vita, three references, up to three academic research papers, and syllabi and teaching evaluations for recent courses taught. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled, but we intend to interview applicants at the Summer AMA Educators’ Conference and anticipate completing campus visits by November 2007, so early applications are encouraged.
