The University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration invite applications for the office of Chair of the Tourism and Convention Administration Department. This is a full-time, 12 month, tenured Associate or Full Professor position available as early as July 1, 2007, but will remain open until an appropriate candidate is appointed. The primary responsibilities are to administer the department’s day-to-day operations, oversee the undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratory teaching, engage in and support a scholarship program, engage in and support extramural research funding, identify and develop outreach activities with external constituencies, identify and develop opportunities for the department, develop strong ties to the local and regional industries, engage in the departmental and college development program, and be an effective spokesperson for the department within UNLV and the community. Additional responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, maintaining an active research program leading to scholarly publications, working with graduate students as a committee member or chair for their theses or dissertations, and performing college and university committee service.

The TCA department encompasses a wide variety of disciplines including: meetings and convention management, entertainment and special events, club management, tourism, cruise ship management, catering, hospitality marketing, hospitality finance, and hospitality accounting. Applicants with specialization in any of these areas are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications include an earned doctorate in hotel/hospitality management or in a related field from an accredited college or university with evidence of scholarly research and publications. Significant work experience in the hospitality industry is preferred. A minimum of five years experience in a leadership role in a hospitality and tourism related program is preferred. Candidates must have sufficient qualifications to meet the tenure requirements set by the Nevada System of Higher Education.

SALARY RANGE

Salary is competitive, contingent on the labor market. Position is contingent upon funding.
