Interorganizational SIG Announces Winner of Louis W. Stern Award
A committee that included Bart Weitz, Aric Rindfleisch, and Joe Cannon has chosen the winner of the 2007 Louis W. Stern Award. The committee has chosen "Control Mechanisms and the Relationship Life Cycle: Implications for Safeguarding Specific Investments and Developing Commitment," by Sandy K. Jap and Shankar Ganesan, which was published in the Journal of Marketing Research, in the May 2000, 227-245.
The committee was impressed by the originality of the article and its influence on the discipline. It was one of the first empirical studies to take a more dynamic view of relationships, suggesting different control mechanisms are appropriate at different stages of the relationship. The research was high in terms of technical competence. The article has been highly cited and received the most nominations – a testament to its contribution to the literature on marketing and channels of distribution.
