The Association for Consumer Research awarded four dissertation grants under the auspices of the Sheth Foundation at its recent North American conference in Orlando. The Sheth Foundation has provided generous support to ACR for nearly two decades.  This year each winner received $1,500.

Mr. Jonathan Deschenes (Concordia University, advisor Jamy Joy), Co-Winner for best public-purpose research proposal, “The Dream Factory: An Ethnography of the Institutionalized Ill Children Wish Granting Process”.
    
Ms. Liangyan Wang (University of California, Irvine, advisor Connie Pechmann), Co-Winner for best public-purpose research proposal, “Toward a Hierarchy of Social Norm Messages: Distinguishing the Effects of Injunctive, Descriptive, and Category Norms”.

Mr. Carlos J. Torelli (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, advisor Sharon Shavitt), Co-Winner for best cross-cultural research proposal, “Culture and Mental Representations of Power: Implications for Consumers’ Information-Processing Strategies, Judgments, and Influence Attempts”.

Ms. Thuc-Doan T. Nguyen (University of Utah, advisor Russ Belk), Co-Winner for best cross-cultural research proposal, “Globalization: A View by Vietnamese Consumers from Wedding Windows”.

Serving as reviewers for this year’s competition were Sharon Shavitt, Betsy Moore, Punam Keller, and Ana Valenzuela.
