The Marketing Department at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) recently set in motion plans to institute a doctoral program in Marketing. The application for the program has been approved by the University of Texas System, and we are currently awaiting final approval from the State of Texas, which we expect to have in early January, 2007 (allowing us to begin classes in Fall 2007).

One of the strengths of the program is its focus on behavioral research. Over the last 5 years, we have assembled a group of faculty who are conducting high quality behavioral research and publishing it in the field’s top journals such as Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, and Journal of Consumer Psychology, just to name a few. You can see a list of these faculty, along with their publications and general research interests, at

My reason for sending this announcement is to ask your help in encouraging good students to consider UTSA if they are interested in pursuing an academic career with a focus on behavioral research. Although the announcement may seem somewhat premature (i.e., pending approval), the expected approval date is right near typical deadlines for doctoral program applications. (We expect to begin classes in Fall 2007). Thus, even though we cannot formally accept applications until approval has been granted, we are open to inquiries.

Please have any interested parties contact me if they have questions. Thanks very much for your help.
