New Editors at Journal of Retailing

I am pleased to announce that Jim Brown and Rajiv Dant have been appointed co-editors of the Journal of Retailing.
Jim is the Kmart Corporation Professor of Marketing at West Virginia University and Rajiv is the Frank Harvey Distinguished Professor of Marketing at the University of South Florida. Both have published extensively in the Journal of Retailing and currently serve on the journal’s editorial review board. The Journal is very fortunate to have such noted and distinguished scholars assume the editorship.
The Journal is in extremely good shape. Over the past six years, Dhruv Grewal and Michael Levy have worked tirelessly to promote the Journal and improve its quality. The number of manuscripts submitted to the Journal has more than doubled since they took over as editors. In the six years that Michael and Dhruv have been editors, they have processed almost 1,000 manuscripts, maintaining a 13% acceptance rate and a 33 day median manuscript turnaround from reviewers. The overall quality of the Journal has improved and it is now widely viewed as one of the top marketing journals. This has not happened by accident, but is the result of Michael and Dhruv’s dedication and determination. The profession has benefited greatly from their six years as editors and I personally am grateful for their hard work and good humor. Dhruv and Michael, thank you for an exceptional job as editors of the Journal of Retailing.

Michael, Dhruv and I would also like to thank Jim Hess and Praveen Kopalle for their excellent job as Associate Editors for marketing science.  Jim and Praveen have agreed to stay on with the new editors, and JR has added three additional associate editors.  So, the new Associate Editorial team is:

  • Jim Hess (University of Houston), Marketing Science
  • Praveen Kopalle (Dartmouth), Marketing Science
  • V. Kumar (University of Connecticut), Strategy
  • Bill Bearden (University of South Carolina), Consumer Behavior
  • Robert Kozinets (York University), Qualitative Consumer Behavior

While Jim and Rajiv are at two different universities, the manuscript submission and review process will be unified through Elsevier’s editorial software. Effective September 1, 2006 new manuscripts should be submitted to them at or   Revised manuscripts should be submitted to until March 1, 2007.
