The Marketing and Industrial Distribution (MKID) program in the School of Business at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks an assistant or associate professor to join a faculty team that is committed to excellence in research and teaching effective fall 2007.  The program features a unique Business and Engineering Industrial Distribution program and the recently-hired Ben S. Weil Professor of Industrial Distribution, Dr. Tom DeCarlo. 

The program seeks a colleague with knowledge and interests in some of these areas: marketing, industrial distribution, and professional selling.  Candidate(s) will be expected to conduct quality research and teach classes at the undergraduate and masters levels.  MKID strategic emphases include expanding the industrial distribution program and launching new medical marketing and professional sales initiatives.

The purpose of the President Wefald Chair in Business Administration is to honor Kansas State University’s president by recruiting and retaining the highest quality faculty who can serve as a recognized authority in the field of leadership. The chair is endowed by a private donor and is part of the State of Kansas Faculty of Distinction Program.

Starting Date: August 2007

Job Description:  The President Wefald Leadership Chair-holder will serve as a regular member of the faculty in the College of Business Administration and will serve as a focal point for research and scholarly programs in the field of leadership. In addition to academic responsibilities, the incumbent will serve as the Director of the K-State Center for Leadership. Academic duties include maintaining an active research agenda, teaching an average of two classes per semester, and serving on committees to enhance the operations of the college, university, and profession. An important component of the position is developing and maintaining programs in the field of leadership that will be of benefit to students and practitioners interested in leadership. This should involve developing and enhancing effective relationships with alumni, business persons, and colleagues through an advisory board designed to provide guidance about leadership research and programs provided through the K-State Center for Leadership.

The University and College of Business Administration: Kansas State University is a state-supported institution of more than 23,000 students. In addition, recipient of the President Wefald Leadership Chair should have strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to improving leadership education and practice.

In the letter of application, candidates should address their history of scholarly interests, importance of their scholarship to the field of leadership, special reasons for justifying selection to the chair, and a description of service impacting the business and academic communities in the area of leadership. Documented evidence of strong scholarly and administrative skills is particularly desirable.
