In an aggressively demanding global marketplace that is being subject to unprecedented market pressures, new product strategies are driven by the imperatives of innovation and speed to market. The success or failure of an enterprise depends ultimately on its ability to do this well. There is a need for a team work that can bring about an effective integration of engineering and management for the successful launch of breakthrough products. Recently a new dimension has been added by the emerging necessity to look at the hitherto untapped market potential at the ‘Bottom of the Pyramid’. Corporations are talking about ‘Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)’ and greater empowerment of the disenfranchised lot of needy masses whose requirements are to be met. Rural demands are increasing and are driving the concepts of rural marketing. Grass roots level innovations are becoming more relevant
