New Initiatives at this Year's Conference

  • Plenary SessionMarketing in the Internet Age: Are We Bringing Out the Best and/or Worst in Consumers? Featured Peter Fader and Bill Davidow. For more details click the Speaker tab.
  • Analyzing and Capitalizing on Big Data: a panel of industry experts from LinkedIn, Teradata and Yahoo chaired by Bill Rand, University of Maryland. Best tweet from the session: "Don't make Big Data a science project, you have to make it smart, actionable and insightful.
  • Doing and Publishing Cross-Functional Research: Roland Rust, Amy Ostrom, Lopo Rego, and Seshadri Tirunalli discussed strategies and thoughts based on their experiences.
  • Marketing as a Field: Are We Advancing or Losing our Cohesiveness?: Ajay Kohli, Linda Price, Russ Winer, and Klaus Wertenbroch discussed the future of marketing as a discipline. The session attracted a diverse set of audience members, from doctoral students through deans.
  • Collaborating with Companies: Michael Ahearne, Rajdeep Grewal, and Sandy Jap shared best practices for collaborating with companies and suggested strategies for making collaborations successful for both parties.
  • ​How to Keep Coming Up with Great Research Ideas: panelists Don Lehmann, Brian Ratchford, Americus Reed and Rebecca Slotegraaf offered ideas for reshaping one's research throughout a career.

Conference Photo Policy

Registrants of AMA Events agree to allow AMA and its official photographer to photograph them in the context of the conference. Footage captured by the official AMA photographer may be used in future print and electronic promotional and archival materials. For questions or concerns, please call 800.262.1150 or email info@ama.org.​​

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations and requests for refunds must be submitted to the AMA via email at mweingarden@ama.org. Cancellations received four weeks prior to the event start date will receive a refund minus a $150 early cancellation fee. Cancellations received after that date will receive a refund minus a $300 late cancellation fee.

Registrants wishing to cancel may send someone to take their place without penalty if they send a written request with the replacement person’s name to info@ama.org at least two weeks prior to the event start date.

No refunds will be given as of 17 July 2014.

A conference registration may not be shared by two or more individuals. Space is limited and on-site registration cannot be guaranteed. Separate cancellation policies may exist for pre-conference programs, tutorials, and other associated events. Hotel and transportation reservation cancellations must be handled by the individual registrant directly with the hotel, airline and/or other company.

Marketing in the Internet Age: 

Are We Bringing Out the Best and/or Worst in Consumers?​

Bill Davidow will provide observations on how the internet has transformed marketing both on- and off-line, as well as offer commentary on the vital role of marketing educators to help business leaders navigate these new challenges and dilemmas. Peter Fader of University of Pennsylvania will also share some introductory insights as a part of this first-of-its-kind plenary session.

Davidow has been a high-technology industry executive and a venture investor for more than 30 years. He continues to act as an active advisor to Mohr Davidow Ventures, a venture capital firm. Davidow is the author of Marketing High Technology and a co-author of OverconnectedTotal Customer Service and The Virtual Corporation.

While at Intel, Bill served as senior vice president of marketing and sales, vice president of the microcomputer division and vice president of the microcomputer systems division. Prior to Intel Corp., Bill worked in various managerial positions at Hewlett Packard and General Electric.  Bill’s community involvement extends to serving on the boards of California Institute of Technology and Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. He also sits on the Foundation Board of the University of California, San Francisco, and on the Board of the California Nature Conservancy.

Bill earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Dartmouth College, a master’s degree in electrical engineering from both Dartmouth College and the California Institute of Technology, and a doctorate in electrical engineering from Stanford University.​

Peter Fader is the Frances and Pei-Yuan Chia Professor and Co-Director - Wharton Customer Analytics Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania. Professor Fader's expertise centers around the analysis of behavioral data to understand and forecast customer shopping/purchasing activities. He works with firms from a wide range of industries, such as consumer packaged goods, interactive media, financial services, and pharmaceuticals. Managerial applications focus on topics such as customer relationship management, lifetime value of the customer, and sales forecasting for new products. Much of his research highlights the consistent (but often surprising) behavioral patterns that exist across these industries and other seemingly different domains.​ 

Peter holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Department of Mathematics at MIT and a Masters and Doctorate from the Sloan School of Management at MIT.​

The AMA has negotiated highly competitive group rates for the Summer Marketing Educators’ Conference.  You must make your hotel reservations by July 3, 2014 and properly identify yourself (Summer Mkt Ed Conf) to qualify for the special group rate.  After July 3, 2014, the rooms will be released for sale to the general public, and all reservations will be accepted on a space available basis at the hotel's available rate - not at the group rate.  A deposit in the amount of (1) one night’s room & tax for each confirmed room will be due at time of booking.  Cancellations made within 48 hours prior to your arrival & no-shows will forfeit the initial deposit.  If you fail to arrive on your confirmed arrival date, your entire reservation will be cancelled and your credit card will be charged for one night’s room and tax. 

Check in time is 4:00pm, and check out is at 12:00pm.  Anyone arriving earlier than 4:00pm will be checked in as soon as a room(s) becomes available.  Guests checking out early may be assessed an early departure fee.  Upon check in, guests will be asked to verify their departure date.  At that time, scheduled departure dates may be altered.

Conference attire is business casual.  Meeting rooms tend to be cool so you may wish to bring a sweater/jacket.
