Arne Duncan

​Arne Duncan was the ninth U.S. Secretary of Education. Duncan served under President Barack Obama from January 20, 2009 through January 1, 2016. Before becoming secretary of education, Duncan served as the chief executive officer of the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), a position he held from June 2001 through December 2008. Prior to joining the Chicago Public Schools, from 1992 to 1998, Duncan ran the nonprofit education foundation Ariel Education Initiative, which helped fund a college education for a class of inner-city children under the I Have A Dream program. In 2016, Duncan returned to his hometown on a mission to improve the lives of young adults as managing partner at Emerson Collective, an organization headed by Laurene Powell Jobs.



Kate Turkcan

​Kate is Kantar Consulting’s Vice President, and Head of Youth Insights. She is an expert on teens and the Centennial generation, working with clients to help them understand and plan for the next generation of consumers and employees. Kate is a frequent keynote speaker at conferences and client workshops. Before joining Kantar Consulting, Kate spent 7 years at Starcom Worldwide honing her youth expertise developing communication and media strategies for P&G and Macy’s, while also working with clients such as PetSmart, Exelon and ComEd. Kate has a BA in International Studies from Miami University, with minors in Marketing and French.



Jennifer Garret

Jennifer Garrett is a creative and passionate sales and marketing leader with nearly 20 years industry success. As a member of Facebook's cutting-edge leadership team, Garrett oversees the Education vertical within Global Marketing Solutions.  Her team collaborates to drive growth for a variety of partners including for-profit and not-for-profit institutions, online program managers, and e-learning businesses.

Prior to Facebook, Jennifer spent over 12 years in senior sales roles at Nickelodeon, MTV Networks International and most recently at XO Group as Executive Vice President, National Enterprise Group. Before stepping into the media and sales worlds, Garrett practiced finance law at the firm Mayer, Brown and Platt. 



Wayne Connell

​Wayne is Vice President of Human Resources for The Washington Post, where he leads the HR function in workforce planning, talent acquisition, total rewards, organizational development, retention and HR policy. He has more than 20 years of HR experience, spanning the hospitality, aviation and media industries.

Wayne has guided organizations – including The Post since 2005 – in creating long-term HR strategies that enable the most effective use of their talent. His areas of focus include performance management, succession planning, culture change, leadership development, coaching, employer branding, onboarding, recruiting and employee relations.

The AMA has negotiated special group rates for the Symposium for the Marketing of Higher Education. You must make your hotel reservations by October 5, 2018 and properly identify yourself to qualify for the special group rate (based on availability). After October 5, 2018, the rooms will be released for sale to the general public, and all reservations will be accepted on a space available basis at the hotel's available rate - not at the group rate.

A valid credit card and deposit charge equal to (1) one night’s stay is required to hold each reservation. The deposit is refundable if cancellation notice is received at least 3 days prior to arrival at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek and 5 days prior to arrival at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando.

Check in time is 4:00pm, and check out is 11:00am. Anyone arriving earlier than 4:00pm will be checked in as soon as room(s) become available. Guests checking out early will be assessed an early departure fee of (1) one night's room and tax. If you wish to avoid an early departure fee, please advise the hotel at or before check-in of any change in planned length of stay.

Conference attire is business casual. Meeting rooms tend to be cool, so you may wish to bring a sweater/jacket.
