AMA Opens China Office

The American Marketing Association (AMA) expanded its global presence with the opening on May 30th of its first overseas office in Shanghai. The goal of the AMA China office and its staff is to elevate the marketing discipline by bringing training, tools and resources to China that will help marketers to be more competitive, both locally and globally. The global AMA membership will benefit from this new international presence with increased access to and knowledge of the China market.

AMA CEO Dennis Dunlap said: “We are extremely excited to open the AMA China office. Having a physical presence in China will further help the AMA advocate for the acceptance and importance of marketing in support of China’s business community and economic growth. We look forward to continuing to develop long-term relationships with the government, business and academic communities of China.”

Established in 1937, the AMA has grown to be one of the largest marketing associations in the world, with 30,000 members from more than 100 countries who work, teach and study in the field of marketing. For over 75 years, marketers have counted on the AMA to be their most credible marketing resource, helping them stay relevant with knowledge, training and tools to enhance learning and establish valuable global connections. AMA China is the latest step in the association’s goal of being the best marketing resource worldwide.

By providing high-quality marketing information and resources through its China website,, and its e-newsletter, Marketing Perspectives, AMA China and its staff will continue the tradition of excellence and relevance for marketers established by the AMA in North America. Through an agreement with the Training Center for the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (TCSAFEA), AMA has developed the Certified Marketing Master (CMM) offering, a training and certification program for senior marketers in China, which will be launched and administered by TCSAFEA starting in the fall 2013.

AMA China will receive guidance from AMA International headquarters in Chicago, and will also receive strategic input from the AMA China Advisory Council, which consists of 12 marketing leaders from large multinational corporations and professors from top universities and business schools in China.
