AMA Honors 2014 Higher Education Marketer of the Year

The American Marketing Association (AMA) presented the 4th annual Higher Education Marketer of the Year Individual Award on Wednesday, November 12th at the 2014 AMA Symposium for the Marketing of Higher Education in Austin, Texas.  The award was given to creative strategist Jeanette DeDiemar.  The award recognizes extraordinary leadership and achievement in the field of higher education marketing.

Dr. Jeanette DeDiemar’s ultimate professional mission is to “inspire creative and authentic university brands, develop and deliver exceptional reputation management strategies, lead organizational change, and motivate teams to be collaborative, accountable and technologically savvy.”  Her expertise has been a career of “firsts” – undertaking various leadership roles and leading change management processes to overhaul higher education marketing and communications operations.  Jeanette’s work has resulted in multiple award-winning, effective, and outcome-focused programs and campaigns in higher education.

Jeanette has served many institutions throughout her career, including University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, the state’s largest comprehensive public university (and the inaugural winner of the AMA’s Higher Education Marketing Team of the Year in 2011); Florida State University, a Tier One research university; and Fresno State, as a consultant, to guide the leadership team and staff through moving from decentralized and fragmented marketing and communications culture to an integrated and collaborative operation.  Under Jeanette’s leadership, each of these universities now possesses marketing and communications infrastructures that are sustainable and scalable.  Each team continues to produce award-winning solutions to advance national and regional reputations while leveraging partnerships, increasing alumni engagement, enhancing donor relations and impacting enrollment.

Jeanette is a frequent presenter at national and international conferences including day-long workshops to guide universities through the change management process, how to articulate ROI and how to build and maintain integrated and collaborative marketing and communications structures and brand strategies.  She is also known as a generous mentor and coach to her team, interns and others – sharing her own lessons learned and inspiring the next generation of professionals and influencing the appreciation for the marketing industry.

Jeanette earned a bachelor’s of science in journalism from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, a master’s of science in mass communications from the AQ Miller School of Journalism, and doctorate from Kansas State University.

About the AMA Higher Education Marketer of the Year Awards
Over 10 nominations were received for the Higher Education Marketer of the Year Individual Award. The recipients were selected by a four-person panel consisting of a mix of marketing experts and practitioners with expertise in higher education marketing.  The panel rated nominees on the following criteria: vision and leadership, strategy, and results.
